Climate justice and social justice are two sides of the same coin. Speaking to both is forceful to creating a more even-handed and sustainable future for all and this is a priority for Green Governance through the SPA2 project and the Youth Environmental Empowerment Project. Climate justice is entrenched in recognising that climate change is causing a throng of injurious social, economic, health, and other impacts on at risk communities who have contributed the least to the climate crisis. In short, the climate crisis is making existing inequalities and injustices a whole lot worse and cyclone Idai brought reality to open.
Climate Justice is key to attaining economic development in disaster prone districts like Chimanimani. The voices and demands of vulnerable communities and groups are being increasingly acknowledged in the district due to Green Governance and other like-minded organizations’ operations. The Green Governance Academy where Climate Change issues took precedence, youth symposiums and other trainings aimed at enhancing climate education aids much in explaining how GGZT is devoted to ending climate change induced suffering in Chipinge and Chimanimani. Through its interventions, the organization has managed to make its foot print clearer through its unparalleled marks on climate smart agriculture where young people were empowered through the provision of small livestock to kick-start the rabbit project paying attention to diversification and integration as important principles of agro-ecology. As such the young people of ward 18 boast of owning rabbits with, receiving training on clean energy, climate smart agriculture and being involved in enriching local climate risk conversations.
Of great significance is the stance taken by GGZT of helping the inhabitants of Chimanimani district that DRR is a crosscutting issue that everyone should prioritise. The 13th of October each year is an alarm for the whole globe to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. Masses gathered at Ngangu for a solidarity walk in commemoration of the day as organized by GGZT. Information was disseminated and risk perception levels were raised as organized by GGZT.
